However, the presence of the boron element in blue diamonds makes it appear blue.

Natural blue diamonds are obtained from nature. They are mined from deep under the earth and not artificially created in any laboratory.  

But, there are also blue diamonds that are manmade. Manmade blue diamonds are artificially created in a lab. Though their composition is similar to that of natural blue diamonds, manmade blue diamonds are not as valuable.

The Hope Diamond

The Hope Diamond is 45.52 carats in weight and fancy-dark greyish-blue in color. The Hope Diamond is one of the most famous diamonds in the world. It is one of its kind. It was donated by Harry Winston to The Smithsonian Institution in 1958. The Smithsonian Institution in the US is known as the world’s largest museum and research complex. Interestingly, The Hope Diamond was sent via registered mail! Extremely priceless, it is valued at around USD 250 million. 

The Heart of Eternity

The Heart of Eternity blue diamond is 27.64 carats in weight and fancy vivid blue in color. It was found in the Premier Diamond Mine in South Africa. The diamond was cut by the Steinmetz Group for De Beers. The Heart of Eternity was showcased in 2000 as part of the De Beers Millennium Jewels collection in London. Later it was displayed at The Smithsonian Institution. Its estimated value is more than USD 80 million. 

The Imperial Blue

The Imperial Blue weighs 39.81 carats and is fancy deep blue in color that is flawless. It was owned by Laurence Graff in 1984 who gave the diamond its name. Laurence Graff is Lawrence Graff is the owner of Graff Diamonds, the London-based international jewelry and gem dealer. The Imperial Blue is known to be the world’s largest and flawless fancy deep blue diamond. It is believed to be valued at around USD 79 million. 

The Blue Heart

The Blue Heart diamond weighs 30.62 carats and is fancy deep blue in color. It was discovered in the Premier Mine in 1908. The Blue Heart diamond was purchased by Marjorie Merriweather Post from Harry Winston in 1960 and then donated to the Smithsonian in 1964. It is valued at around USD 61 million. 

Blue Moon

The Blue Moon diamond weighs 12.03 carats and is fancy vivid blue in color and internally flawless. It is one of the costliest diamonds sold at an auction for a record price of USD 48 million at Sotheby’s in 2015. This gemstone is a brighter and smaller version of The Hope Diamond. It displays a strong red phosphorescence when exposed to ultraviolet light.
