In a rough-n-tumble diamond mining world, something new and exciting is not often discovered. But that is precisely what has happened recently! The largest pink diamond found in the last 300 years was unearthed in Angola. Its discovery has created a big buzz among the diamond-mining community. Why? Let’s find out!

Pink diamonds are the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world.
Of every 10,000 diamonds mined, only one will be a pink diamond. Pink diamonds get their color from nitrogen impurities in their structure. The amount of nitrogen present in the diamond determines its shade of pink. Pink diamonds are highly sought after by collectors and jewelry enthusiasts around the world.
Latest Largest Pink Diamond Discovered in Angola
A report by The Associated Press, dated 28-July-2022, announced the discovery of a big pink diamond of 170 carats in Angola. It is claimed to be the largest such gemstone found in 300 years. The pink diamond was found at the Lulo alluvial diamond mine and named “Lulo Rose”!
The record and spectacular discovery of the pink diamond from Lulo showcases Angola as an essential player in diamond mining. It demonstrates Angola’s potential and rewards for commitment and investment in its growing diamond mining industry.
About the Lulo Mine – Angola
Lulo is an alluvial mine which means the stones are recovered from a riverbed. Around four hundred staff members employed at the Lulo mine have already found two of the largest diamonds in Angola, including a 404-carat clear diamond.
The discovery of the high-value large pink diamond has elevated the excitement within the mine, and their further exploration of the primary source continues. Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall, speaking from the company’s headquarters in Australia, commented that he is now searching for more underground deposits, known as kimberlite pipes, which are considered the main diamond source.
